The Financial Post reports in its Friday, Sept. 16, edition that Canadian banks and insurance companies should host more investor days because they tend to lead to higher share prices, says Canaccord Genuity Group analyst Gabriel Dechaine. The Post's Barbara Shecter writes that Mr. Dechaine says over the past five years, financial services firms have outperformed their peers 70 per cent of the time in the three months after these meetings convened to discuss operations and strategy with investors. He looked at information from 25 investor days over the past five years, and measured the company's share performance in the month and three months following the events. On average, the financial services companies that outperformed their peers one month after the event did so by 310 basis points. Three months after the investor day, they outperformed by 650 basis points, notes Mr. Avery. Life insurance firms did even better, according to Mr. Dechaine's analysis. The insurers outperformed their peers 80 per cent of the time at the one-month mark, by 340 basis points on average. At the three-month mark, 70 per cent still outperformed by 960 basis points on average.
