Former Vancouver physician Dr. Eric Hassall has dropped the lawsuit that he filed in the Supreme Court of British Columbia against Canaccord Genuity Corp. over losses in his portfolio. A consent order filed on Aug. 2, 2016, states that the case has been dismissed, without costs to any party. Dr. Hassall had complained that his long-time adviser placed over 70 per cent of his portfolio in a company that later filed for bankruptcy relief.
The consent order comes nearly three years after the lawsuit from Dr. Hassall (who is a pediatric gastroenterologist now living in San Francisco). In an Aug. 22, 2013, notice of claim, he said that Canaccord's Aeron Evans invested over 70 per cent of his portfolio in a California company called Edison Mission Energy. The investment steadily declined in value, and by the time Canccord sold it he had lost $169,000, the suit stated.
