Former Canaccord Genuity Corp. treasurer Peter Virvilis has asked that the Supreme Court of British Columbia award him $2.49-million in wrongful dismissal damages and unpaid wages. He claims that Canaccord fired him for no good reason after misleading him into moving to Toronto. As he sees it, the appropriate compensation is two years of salary.
Mr. Virvilis's request comes as part of a lawsuit that he filed at the Vancouver courthouse on Feb. 23, 2016. He complained that Canaccord dismissed him from his job of 28 years, and that it did so with little warning. He has since remained mostly unemployed, with his only subsequent work being a three-month contract with Haywood Securities Inc.
