Canaccord Genuity Corp. denies that it did anything wrong when it fired Peter Virvilis, a former vice-president and treasurer. The firm claims, in lawyerly fashion, that it "met any and all legal and equitable obligations" to Mr. Virvilis. It also says that Mr. Virvilis was responsible for any losses he suffered.
Canaccord is responding to a wrongful dismissal lawsuit that Mr. Virvilis, 55, filed in the Supreme Court of British Columbia on Feb. 23, 2016. In the suit, Mr. Virvilis complained about his Jan. 13, 2016, firing. He said that at the time he had been with the firm for 28 years and was a valuable and reliable employee. He had also recently moved to Toronto at Canaccord's request.
