Juan Plessis, the former Canaccord Genuity Corp. analyst suing the firm in the Supreme Court of British Columbia after receiving a lower-than-expected bonus, has resolved the dispute out of court. In a consent order filed on July 7, 2015, he has agreed to drop the lawsuit. Each side will cover its own legal costs.
The order represents a sudden end to a case that arose about a year ago over a pay dispute. In a notice of claim filed at the Vancouver courthouse on June 23, 2014, Mr. Plessis complained that Canaccord, his employer of 10 years, had breached his employment contract by paying him a bonus in an amount a more junior employee would expect. The bonus, which was on top of his $150,000-per-year salary, only amounted to $75,000, he said. In prior years he had received a bonus of $150,000 or $180,000.
