The Financial Post reports in its Friday edition that Eight Capital analyst Steve Theriault believes Bank of Nova Scotia is counting on a rebound in Chile. The Post's Geoff Zochodne quotes Mr. Theriault as saying: "While we think of Chile as slower growth versus other Pacific Alliance geographies (particularly Mexico and Peru), BNS is signaling that they believe the single digit industry growth rate of the last several years will return to prior double digit levels. When you layer in the relatively low productivity at BBVA Chile there appears to be significant upside over the medium-term. We expect more detail on this front when the transaction is completed later this year." Scotiabank is also hoping to attract more than one million new primary customers in Canadian banking in five years. The bank said that it had an "industry leading" Tier 1 capital ratio, at 11.5 per cent for 2017, and predicted that it would have $7-billion to $8-billion in excess capital by its fiscal 2020. When it came to the "acquisition front," Scotiabank chief executive officer Brian Porter provided an investor conference with his stand on acquisitions: "It's easy to acquire things. It's much harder to execute and get them integrated."
