The Financial Post reports in its Wednesday edition that the heads of Canada's two biggest telcos traded shots over wireless performance Tuesday, disputing who has the country's fastest mobile network. The Post's Emily Jackson writes that in a series of fiery comments at an industry conference in Toronto, Rogers Communications chief executive officer Guy Laurence disputed a study that found BCE has the fastest network, arguing his top competitor does not even run a truly national network. BCE boss George Cope kicked off the skirmish at a conference in Toronto by saying that Bell is winning subscribers due to its superior network. "I might agree with him, but then we'd both be wrong," Mr. Laurence fired back when given a chance to respond. The boast comes as the telcos jockey to be seen as fast, with all major providers citing network performance as one factor that attracts and retains customers. Two studies released last month by PCMag and Speedtest by Ookla both crowned Bell the winner of the fastest network in Canada. Mr. Laurence, however, called PCMag's methodology into question, noting it only conducted tests at 20 locations around Toronto. Bell shares half of its national infrastructure with Telus.
