The Vancouver Sun reports in its Saturday edition that the Commissioner of Complaints for Telecommunications Services (CCTS) ejected Calgary-based Vois Inc. from its organization last week for failing to heed its binding decision to repay six customers less than $1,000 combined. Postmedia's Emily Jackson writes that this puts Vois, which provides telco services to businesses and residential customers, in violation of CRTC regulations that require participation with the complaints-handling body. It is unclear what sort of penalty Vois will ultimately receive in a case that tests how much clout the telco watchdogs have to stop companies from ignoring the rules. Service providers have always complied with its rulings since its inception in 2007, said commissioner Howard Maker. Vois, a private company that does not reveal how large it is or how many customers it serves, has been investigated by the CCTS for six complaints over the past couple of years. The company did not participate in the investigation process. CCTS took the final step of going to the CRTC after persistent silence from Vois. "The Commission will determine the appropriate actions to take to address this matter," an official said in an e-mail.
