The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday edition The Globe is a finalist in six categories
at the EPPY awards honouring the best in journalism
websites. The unbylined item says the winners will be
announced Thursday.
The Globe's nominations are
for best newspaper-affiliated site,
best news site and best home
page. The Globe is also a finalist for
best news/event feature, the
North; best investigative/enterprise
feature, Last Call, on the
Lac-Megantic disaster; and best
business blog, Business
Briefing. The EPPY Awards, presented by
the U.S.-based journal Editor and
Publisher, recognize the best
media-affiliated websites across
30 categories.
The EPPYs focus on the journalistic merit of
the content, unlike other awards
that are more about technology
and presentation.
The Globe's 2014 finalist nominations
compete against
the biggest media sites around the world.
More than 400
entries were reviewed before the
finalist list was chosen.
Finalists must receive an average
score in the top one-third of
judges' reviews within their division. As a result, some categories
may have no winner.
The Globe won an EPPY last
year for the best Home Page
among the world's major media
sites.
