Post says fund managers buy more "unexciting" BCE

2014-10-17 07:13 ET - In the News

The Financial Post reports in its Friday edition Norman Levine and Darren Sissons at Portfolio Management Corp. say buy BCE ($47.18). Jonathan Ratner, writing in Buy & Sell, say the pair recently added more BCE to their segregated growth, balanced and income-oriented accounts. Mr. Levine noted this defensive name has a yield of more than 5 per cent and makes regular dividend hikes. "It has a stable and growing earnings base, and continues to gain market share in wireless," Mr. Levine said. "It's not exciting, but it grows consistently and the valuation is pretty reasonable." The manager added that the recent Bell Aliant acquisition will boost cash flow and help pay for the dividend. Over all, Mr. Levine and Mr. Sissons believe stocks are in the midst of a much-needed correction. Mr. Sissons says low interest rates allow European banks to continue tapping government for capital, which helps bolster their balance sheets. "Companies like Barclays and Lloyds still have to pay back the U.K. equivalent of TARP, but when they do, they can start to institute dividends," he said. "That will be the big catalyst." In Asia, Hong Kong companies are being punished as a result of protests, but this will not last forever.
