BCE's Amazing Race records second non-elimination leg

2014-08-20 03:14 ET - News Release

Mr. Cary Mignault reports

A SECOND NON-ELIMINATION LEG OF CTV'S THE AMAZING RACE CANADA KEEPS REMAINING SIX TEAMS RACING TO PARIS IN NEXT WEEK'S EPISODE

Following tonight's second non-elimination leg of the season, all six teams will get to see more of France and race to Paris in next week's episode of The Amazing Race Canada, airing Aug. 26 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on BCE Inc.'s CTV and CTV GO. As revealed at the end of tonight's broadcast, Ryan and Rob were saved from elimination at the pit stop on the sands of Juno Beach, after countless wrong turns in the rolling countryside and small towns of Normandy.

Episode 7 recap

From the pit start in Winnipeg, the race exited Canada again as six teams crossed the Atlantic to Normandy, France. At the roadblock, teams barrelled through a complicated formula at Calvados Boulard distillery, then made their way to the detour, and chose either braiding the mane of a Percheron horse or assembling the timeline of the famous Bayeux tapestry. From there, teams raced to Asnelles, and piloted a sailboat on wheels through a short beach course, before making their way to Beny-sur-Mer Canadian war cemetery. Here, Racers paused to remember their fallen countrymen. From there, it was a reflective drive to the pit stop at Juno Beach centre, where they were greeted by host Jon Montgomery. Mr. Montgomery was joined by Jim Parks, a veteran of the Second World War, who landed on Juno Beach 70 years ago as a 19-year-old man.

On Juno Beach, Natalie and Meaghan reclaimed their spot atop the podium, winning their fifth leg after starting in fifth place at the pit start in Winnipeg. Their win earned them two round-trip tickets on Air Canada to any of its European destinations, plus another $3,000 on their Scotiabank gold American Express card.

Tonight's episode will encore this week on TSN (Aug. 20 at 12 a.m. ET and Aug. 22 at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT), TSN2 (Aug. 21 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT), and CTV and CTV GO (Aug. 23 at 8 p.m. ET/PT and Aug. 24 at 5 p.m. ET/PT), and is also now available on demand at CTV GO. All-new episodes of The Amazing Race Canada air Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CTV and CTV GO.

Next week

The Amazing Race Canada continues to the romantic streets of Paris (Aug. 26 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CTV and CTV GO). The pressure mounts in the city of love, when a candy creation brings the race to stand still and tempers to a boil.

The six remaining teams competing for the biggest grand prize in Canadian television history are:

  • Pierre and Michel, twin brothers, Montreal;
  • Alain and Audrey: dating, Montreal;
  • Mickey and Pete, best friends, Muskoka, Ont.;
  • Sukhi and Jinder, siblings, Terrace, B.C.;
  • Natalie and Meaghan, teammates, Scarborough, Ont., and Calgary, Alta.;
  • Ryan and Rob, co-workers, Vancouver.

The four premier sponsors for The Amazing Race Canada are Air Canada, Chevrolet Canada, DQ Canada and Scotiabank.

Commissioned by CTV, Season 2 of The Amazing Race Canada is produced by Insight Productions in association with CTV and with the support of Profiles Television Productions.
