The Investment Reporter, in its Aug. 8, 2014, issue, says buy BCE Inc., recently $49.65. The Reporter said buy eight times from Feb. 13, 1995, to Feb. 15, 2000, at prices ranging from $43.37 to $173.25 (the stock split 2 for 1 on May 12, 1997). It said take some profits on Feb. 28, 2000 -- sell half perhaps -- at $160.75. Assuming an investment of $1,000 for each of the eight buys, selling half the $8,000 position at $160.75 would have yielded a profit of $7,985. The Reporter then said buy 19 more times from Sept. 29, 2000, to Jan. 24, 2014, at prices ranging from $23.06 to $44.93 (the stock split 4.2 to 1 on May 3, 2000, and 1.09 for 1 on July 11, 2006). Assuming an investment of $1,000 for each of the 19 new buys and taking into consideration the $4,000 investment left from the Feb. 28, 2000, one-half sale, the $23,000 investment would now be worth $52,678. The communications giant is planning to buy the remaining Bell Aliant shares it does not already own. The transaction should eliminate Bell's public company costs and other unnecessary costs, resulting in $100-million in pretax yearly cost savings and free cash flow of $200-million a year. BCE expects the transaction to close by Nov. 30, 2014.
