BCE's CTV's Amazing Race eliminates fifth team

2014-08-13 06:41 ET - News Release

Mr. Cary Mignault reports

REX AND BOB TAKE FINAL BOW, BECOMING FIFTH TEAM ELIMINATED ON CTV'S THE AMAZING RACE CANADA

"The Gateway to the West" would be as far as Rex Harrington and his fiance Bob Hope would make it in Season 2 of BCE Inc.'s The Amazing Race Canada, as they struggled in the sixth leg, and were eliminated in Winnipeg. At the top of the soon-to-be-opened Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg, Mr. Herrington and Mr. Hope were shocked to learn that they were at the bottom of the heap.

Highlights:

  • Twin brothers Pierre and Michel use their express pass and win the sixth leg;
  • Next week: the race goes international again as teams cross the Atlantic to Normandy, France, and come face-to-face with Canadian history;
  • Fans can see exclusive extras, including the extended mat chat with Mr. Herrington and Mr. Hope, and more at CTV's website.

Mr. Herrington and Mr. Hope were all thumbs at the lengthy pierogi challenge, but then Mr. Herrington struggled with the rock song at the roadblock. Unbeknownst to the pair, his numerous performances cost them precious time and put them to the back of the pack. The two were in disbelief when they hit the mat and heard the news from host Jon Montgomery. "We thought we were maybe third," said Mr. Hope. The two took it in stride however and exited gracefully. "We got to see Canada and do some amazing stuff," said Mr. Herrington, "so we're really happy."

Episode 6 recap

From the pit start in the Yukon, seven teams travelled east to Winnipeg and made their way to the famous Golden Boy statue at the Legislature building. From there the teams went to the Royal Canadian Mint and matched coins with their corresponding country flags. At the detour, teams chose from either the hockey challenge at the home of the Winnipeg Jets, the MTS Centre, or making pierogies at a local church. Once complete racers made their way to Whiskey Dix bar to learn and perform a rock and roll song at the roadblock, then the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, and finally, the pit stop.

Pierre and Michel won the leg, earning a trip to Los Cabos, Mexico, from Air Canada Vacations, and $3,000 on their Scotiabank Gold American Express card.

Next week

Racers cross the Atlantic to Normandy, France, where the detour leaves teams horsing around (Tuesday, Aug. 19, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, on CTV and CTV GO). A relentless roadblock dilutes some teams' chances of winning, but when teams come face to face with Canadian history, racers pause to remember the fallen.

The six remaining teams competing for the biggest grand prize in Canadian television history are:

  • Pierre and Michel -- twin brothers, Montreal;
  • Alain and Audrey -- dating, Montreal;
  • Mickey and Pete -- best friends, Muskoka, Ont.;
  • Sukhi and Jinder -- siblings, Terrace, B.C.;
  • Natalie and Meaghan -- teammates, Scarborough, Ont., and Calgary;
  • Ryan and Rob -- co-workers, Vancouver.
