The Financial Post reports in its Wednesday edition that investor demand for real estate is insatiable, both because of the relative stability the asset class provides, as well as the hefty yields it can offer the income-starved. The Post's Jonathan Ratner, writing in Buy & Sell, says the trend is perhaps best exemplified by the countless deals and real estate offerings coming from some of the world's biggest players, whether that is Blackstone Group LP closing a $16-billion (U.S.) fund late in 2015, or Brookfield Asset Management raising $9-billion (U.S.) for its latest real estate fund in April. As more capital flows into the property market, the disconnect between public and private market real estate values continues to widen. In fact, it is the biggest gap the portfolio managers at Vision Capital Corp. have seen in 45 years. "That plays right into what we do: buying real estate cheaper in the stock market than in the property market," said Jeff Olin, the firm's chief executive officer. Mr. Olin and co-portfolio managers of the Vision Opportunity Fund, Frank Mayer and Andrew Moffs, believe that the North American publicly traded real estate market as a whole is set for an excellent run.
