The Investment Reporter, in its Feb. 6, 2015, issue, says hold Brookfield Asset Management Inc., recently $64.68. The Reporter said buy on Sept. 30, 2005, at $20.10, and again on April 28, 2006, at $69.01 (the stock split 3:2 on May 22, 2007). Assuming an investment of $1,000 for each of the two buys, the $2,000 position would now be worth $19,986. The Brookfield shares have risen in recent months and are now looking too costly. The stock trades at an excessive 28 times the $2.31 a share Brookfield is thought to have earned in 2014. Based on the 2015 earnings estimate of $2.92 a share, the price-to-earnings ratio is still a steep 22.2. The newsletter has downgraded Brookfield to hold.
