Asian Mineral produces first nickel at Ban Phuc

2013-07-02 09:14 ET - News Release

Mr. Simon Booth reports

ASIAN MINERAL RESOURCES ANNOUNCES COMMENCEMENT OF PRODUCTION FROM THE BAN PHUC NICKEL PROJECT

Asian Mineral Resources Ltd. has achieved first production from its Ban Phuc nickel project.

Strong attendance at the opening ceremony, which took place on June 29, 2013, by officials from both central and provincial government, as well as the local community, is indicative of the continued broad support for the project within Vietnam. Both Nguyen Linh Ngoc, vice-minister of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and Cam Ngoc Minh, chairman of the People's Committee of Son La Province, speaking at the opening ceremony, noted in particular the significance of the opening of the first nickel mine in Vietnam and the importance of the continued development of the nickel industry for the province and Vietnam's economy.

Pictures of the event are available on Asian Mineral's website.

Operations at the underground mine recommenced on May 10, 2013, and, with the commissioning of the processing plant, production will ramp up over the coming months to a run-rate of over 6,600 tonnes per year nickel, 3,300 tonnes per year copper and 200 tonnes per year cobalt contained in concentrate.

Simon Booth, chief executive officer of AMR, stated: "The commencement of concentrate production from the Ban Phuc nickel project is a significant milestone for AMR and elevates the company to producer status. The efforts of our dedicated work force and the ongoing support of the central and local government of Vietnam have been key to the success of the project. What has been particularly pleasing is that together we have built this project with zero lost time injuries, recently passing the milestone of one million man-hours lost time injury free. This is a world-class achievement and credit goes to all supervisors, employees and our contractors."

Asian Mineral also continues to focus on progressing opportunities to expand production, including extensions to the Ban Phuc massive sulphide vein, and selected higher-grade portions of the disseminated sulphide deposit. This will enable AMR to leverage the 30 per cent additional installed capacity at its processing plant.
