The Financial Post reports in its Thursday, Sept. 5, edition that seven cannabis retail lottery winners linked to Highlife Cannabis Co. have been disqualified by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario after failing to submit the necessary documentation required to continue in the process of obtaining a licence to set up a cannabis store in the province. The Post's Vanmala Subramaniam writes that the seven were disqualified under rule 14(a) of the AGCO'S Cannabis Retail Store Allocation Lottery Rules, which required them to submit a letter of credit from a financial institution for the amount of $50,000, a legal instrument confirming a retail space had been secured from Oct. 1, 2019, and fees of $10,000 within five business days of announcement of the lottery draw. Last week, the Post reported that 14 addresses linked to legal dispensary HighLife, in Sudbury, Ont., had submitted over 650 applications to the lottery, and emerged with seven out of 42 wins. All seven of those winners -- Pietro Greco, Bara Bahlul, John Reynolds, Sofia Kuliev, Ekrem Uzunova, Ravino Junaev and Varant Kichian -- have now been disqualified. In total, 12 lottery winners were disqualified and one other withdrew from the process.
