Globe/wire say Aurora moves to supply Nordic countries

2018-01-05 08:03 ET - In the News

The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday edition that Aurora Cannabis plans to partner with Danish tomato and pepper producer Alfred Pedersen & Son to produce and sell cannabis in Europe. A Reuters dispatch to The Globe says that Aurora's growth plan comes as Canada prepares to legalize the sale of recreational marijuana this summer, becoming the second country in the world to do so after Uruguay. Tomatoes and peppers -- often grown in greenhouses -- are the most common choices to convert to cannabis as they have similar growth requirements. The joint venture, to be majority owned by Aurora, will focus on selling cannabis in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland, through Aurora's German unit. The newly formed company, Aurora Nordic Cannabis A/S, will set up a production facility that can produce up to 120,000 kilograms of cannabis a year. Aurora's partner received its licence to cultivate cannabis from Denmark's Medicines Agency on Jan. 1. Aurora closed Thursday at $13.04, down $1.14, after the U.S. administration of Donald Trump reversed an Obama-era policy of marijuana liberalization.
