The Financial Post reports in its Tuesday edition that some investors might think they missed the boat on gold after last Friday's post-Brexit rally, but many analysts disagree. The Post's Peter Koven, writing in Trading Desk, says analysts are hiking their gold price targets and upgrading stocks as the Brexit vote boosts global market volatility. CIBC analysts boosted their 2016 gold price assumption 14 per cent to $1,278 an ounce, and raised their long-term target 4 per cent to $1,300. "Brexit represents a fundamental shift in how gold is looked upon as a safe haven asset, with both short-term and long-term implications to Europe and the rest of the world," the analysts said in a note. They upgraded Barrick Gold and Silver Standard Resources to outperform (from sector perform) and Iamgold to sector perform (from underperform). Clarus Securities analysts agreed, with a note Monday headlined, "Brexit Brings Back the Bull." They boosted their gold price target by 8.3 per cent to $1,300 an ounce and said there is still a "significant runway" for price appreciation from current levels. They are forecasting returns of more than 100 per cent in shares of Continental Gold and Australia's Cardinal Resources Inc.
