The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday edition Barrick Gold has appointed co-presidents and done away with the position of chief executive officer. The Globe's Richard Blackwell writes on the co-presidents, Kelvin Dushnisky, 50, is a lawyer, but he also has a couple of science degrees from the University of Manitoba and the University of B.C.
Before joining Barrick, he worked with many mining companies in executive roles and directorships. He was vice-president of regulatory affairs at Sutton Resources, president of International Vestor Resources Ltd., senior vice-president of Redfern Resources Ltd. and vice-chairman and general counsel Eurozinc mining.
He moved to Barrick in 2002, becoming senior executive vice-president in 2012. The other co-president is
Jim Gowans.
Mr. Gowans, 63, was brought into Barrick early this year as executive vice-president and chief operating officer.
He has more direct mining experience than Mr. Dushnisky. He has a degree in mineral engineering from the University of B.C.
Mr. Gowans was CEO at De Beers Canada from 2006 until 2010, when he was named chief operating officer and chief technical officer of the De Beers group. He also worked at Placer Dome.
