New Jersey prosecutors say that they never promised not to pursue criminal charges against Guy Gentile, the New York man who helped expose the massive money laundering operation run by Bob Bandfield. They say that Mr. Gentile offered to help the government after being arrested for an unrelated market manipulation, and continued to do so without conditions. They are asking a judge to deny recent efforts by Mr. Gentile to have the market manipulation charges thrown out.
The statements from prosecutors come as part of a case in which they claim that Mr. Gentile manipulated a Vancouver OTC Bulletin Board company, Raven Gold Corp. The scheme, which occurred in 2007, generated $15-million in illegal proceeds, the government says. (All figures are in U.S. dollars.) Mr. Gentile's role, as described by prosecutors, included arranging tout sheets and selling millions of Raven Gold shares as the stock went to a $1.73 high.
