Controversial Vancouver lawyer John Briner has responded to a futures trading case he faces in the United States, denying that he did anything wrong. The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission claims that he participated in 1,248 matched trades in 2014. He and a California man carried out transactions designed to illegally pass $390,000 from one party to another, according to the CFTC. (All figures are in U.S. dollars.)

For his part, Mr. Briner denies the allegations, or at least denies knowing about the underlying activity. In an answer filed on Thursday, June 4, he goes through the case on a point-by-point basis, denying each paragraph without providing details. In some instances he claims to lack sufficient information to admit or deny an accusation. Oddly, he claims to lack information about some seemingly non-controversial matters, such as the CFTC's contention that he is a lawyer residing in Vancouver who has never been registered with the commission.
