The TSX Venture Exchange gained 9.85 points to 598.11 Wednesday. A shell graduate and aspiring marijuana company, Westleaf Inc. (WL: $1.88), began trading today. It opened at $1.75 and reached an intraday high of $1.91 before closing at $1.88 on 672,500 shares.

Westleaf is building a 133,400-square-foot cultivation facility in Battleford, Sask., on land belonging to the Thunderchild First Nation. It plans to open 20 to 30 marijuana retail stores across Canada over the next two years. The stores will be called Prairie Records and will be designed to look like vinyl record stores. Mock-up photos show guitars hanging on Prairie Record store walls. Westleaf's main product, marijuana strains, will come in packaging that is square, large and relatively flat, just like vinyl record sleeves. Westleaf aims to open its first Prairie Records store in early 2019 in downtown Calgary at the Palace Theatre. It also plans to open a store in Warman, just outside Saskatoon and about 1-1/2 hours from Battleford.
