The TSX Venture Exchange closed up 2.24 points to 803.60 Friday, but it ended the week down 6.99 points. Joanne Yan's capital pool shell, Avanco Capital Corp. (AAA), began trading today. It opened and closed at 20 cents on 85,000 shares. It sold a $400,000 initial public offering of shares at 10 cents.
Avanco is Ms. Yan's third capital pool shell. Her first shell, Y&O Ventures Corp., sold a 10-cent IPO in 2006, then in the same year it launched Hanwei Energy Services Corp. (HE: $0.035), a Vancouver-based manufacturer and exporter of oil and gas pipes. Hanwei peaked at $7.45 in 2007. It gave the IPO shareholders of Y&O Ventures the opportunity to get out of their investment with a significant profit. Ms. Yan remains a director of Hanwei.
