West Texas Intermediate crude for April delivery lost $1.45 to $61.15 on the New York Merc, while Brent for May lost $1.45 to $64.34 (all figures in this para U.S.). Western Canadian Select traded at a discount of $24.30 to WTI ($36.85), unchanged. Natural gas for April gained three cents to $2.78. The TSX energy index lost 1.68 points to 170.47.

Adam Waterous's Saskatchewan heavy oil producer, Cona Resources Ltd. (CONA), climbed 51 cents to $2.42 on 3.71 million shares, after announcing an offer from the Waterous Energy Fund to go private at $2.55. The fund already owns 67.7 million of Cona's 101 million shares. It acquired this position in May, 2017, at $3.60 from the company's then two largest shareholders. A month after the share purchase, Mr. Waterous became the company's chairman. (Previously, he was the global head of investment banking at Scotiabank.) Then in July, Mr. Waterous changed the company's name to Cona Resources from Northern Blizzard Resources.
