West Texas Intermediate crude for October delivery added $1.07 to $49.30 on the New York Merc, while Brent for November added 89 cents to $55.16 (all figures in this para U.S.). Western Canadian Select traded at a discount of $12.15 to WTI ($37.15), unchanged. Natural gas for October added six cents to $3.06. The TSX energy index added 4.34 points to close at 178.38.

Saskatchewan Viking producer Raging River Exploration Inc. (RRX) added 14 cents to $7.07 on 2.11 million shares, crossing back over the $7 mark, a little over two weeks after touching a 52-week low of just $6.25. Chief executive officer Neil Roszell strove to keep the excitement going this morning at the 18th Annual Peters & Co. Energy Conference in Toronto. This was Raging River's sixth time at the conference, which Mr. Roszell joked was unusual and even "shocking" for him, because his past companies have tended to be "three years and out." He was referring to the fact that from 2004 to 2012, he sold his previous three promotions: Prairie Schooner Petroleum to what is now Bellatrix Exploration Ltd. (BXE: $3.21) in 2006, then Wild River Resources to Crescent Point Energy Corp. (CPG: $8.85) in 2009 and then Wild Stream Resources to Crescent Point in 2012. Raging River was spun out of the Wild Stream acquisition and will celebrate its sixth birthday next March.
