West Texas Intermediate crude for October delivery added 44 cents to $47.87 on the New York Merc, while Brent for October added 37 cents to $52.41 (all figures in this para U.S.). Western Canadian Select traded at a discount of $10.30 to WTI ($37.57), unchanged. Natural gas for September lost six cents to $2.89. The TSX energy index lost a fraction to close at 168.68.
Crescent Point Energy Corp. (CPG) added eight cents to $8.42 on 1.67 million shares. It won a minor victory today, after the National Energy Board agreed to hold a hearing on Crescent Point's complaint against Tundra Energy Marketing over a pipeline system in Saskatchewan. The complaint was filed on June 9. On July 11, Tundra (a mid-stream company affiliated with Tundra Oil & Gas, which is the largest oil producer in Manitoba and is a wholly owned subsidiary of James Richardson & Sons Ltd.) asked the NEB to dismiss the complaint. The NEB has instead decided that the complaint deserves a public hearing.
