West Texas Intermediate crude for August delivery added 19 cents to $44.93 on the New York Merc, while Brent for August added 11 cents to $47.42 (all figures in this para U.S.). Western Canadian Select traded at a discount of $10.20 to WTI ($34.73), unchanged. Natural gas for August lost three cents to $3.04. The TSX energy index lost a fraction to close at 173.02.

Africa Oil Corp. (AOI), a Lundin company, was unchanged at $1.93 on 223,700 shares. It has not released news in over a month, but one of its joint venturers in the Lokichar basin of Kenya, Tullow Oil, released a trading statement yesterday for the first half of 2017, along with an operational update. Tullow said the joint venturers' Lokichar drill program is progressing on schedule. The program as originally announced last year was going to consist of four wells, of which two would be exploration wells and two would be appraisal wells. All four found oil. The joint venturers decided to double the program to include four extra wells. Tullow announced yesterday that the fifth well has now been drilled. No results were mentioned, but the well was identified as the Etom-3 appraisal well. It would have targeted the Etom structure in the northern part of the basin.
