West Texas Intermediate crude for March delivery added 17 cents to $52.34 on the New York Merc, while Brent for April added seven cents to $55.12 (all figures in this para U.S.). Western Canadian Select traded at a discount of $13.40 to WTI ($38.94), unchanged. Natural gas for March was unchanged at $3.13. The TSX energy index added a fraction to close at 197.57.

Viking oil producer Raging River Exploration Inc. (RRX) added 20 cents to $8.99 on 5.2 million shares, striving to get back over the $9 mark, having closed below it yesterday for the first time since April. The stock has fallen from nearly $12 in October despite a busy late 2016/early 2017 drill program. Raging River provided an update on that program this morning and also released its year-end 2016 reserve report. Production was pegged at 20,400 barrels of oil equivalent a day during the fourth quarter, slightly above the company's target of 20,250 barrels a day, as well as analysts' predictions of around 20,300 barrels a day. Full-year production of 17,900 barrels a day surpassed the company's target of 17,800.
