West Texas Intermediate crude for November delivery lost 57 cents to $50.78 on the New York Merc, while Brent for December lost 67 cents to $52.47 (all figures in this para U.S.). Western Canadian Select traded at a discount of $13.75 to WTI ($37.03), unchanged. Natural gas for November lost six cents to $3.22. The TSX energy index added 2.54 points to close at 207.39.

Clay Riddell's Trilogy Energy Corp. (TET) lost nine cents to $7.56 on 570,100 shares. On Friday evening, it announced a leak at one of its crude oil pipelines in the Kaybob Montney area of Alberta. It said it discovered the leak on Thursday, sent out emergency response workers and equipment, and began cleanup. The pipeline was isolated and no one was reported injured. Trilogy and the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) began looking into the cause and size of the leak. As of this writing, the investigation is still in progress. AER spokesman Carrie Rosa told the Edmonton Journal yesterday that dense bush and bad weather are hindering the investigation. "It's tough to access. It's really densely vegetated," she said, adding that a weekend snowfall was no help. The marsh into which the crude leaked contains no fish, but Ms. Rosa said that people who have reached the site by foot have found two dead birds and signs of affected beaver lodges. Sampling and remediation efforts continue.
