New York spot gold rose $5.30 to $1,196.40 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 4.98 points to 713.15 while the TSX Gold Index lost 1.59 points to 151.82. Tahoe Resources Inc. (THO), $22 two years ago, dropped another five cents to $3.56 on 5.35 million shares today. The company temporarily -- one hopes -- lost its mining licence for Escobal in Guatemala this week, and it faces months of discussions to get it back. Endeavour Mining Corp. (EDV) was a bright spot. It gained seven cents to $19.31 on 456,000 shares on word it will sell its non-core Tabakoto mine in Mali for $60-million (U.S.).

Warren Holmes and Marz Kord's Wallbridge Mining Co. Ltd. (WM) jumped 2.5 cents to 12.5 cents on 4.45 million shares on new assays from another six holes drilled underground at its Fenelon gold project in northwestern Quebec. The assays ranged as high as 137.63 grams of gold per tonne across 4.85 metres in the Naga Viper zone and 144.96 grams per tonne over 2.12 metres in the Chipotle zone, with high-grade hits plentiful in the new results. A week ago, Wallbridge received assays from six other holes, which produced up to 49.06 grams of gold per tonne across 10.13 metres at Chipotle and 48.81 grams per tonne across 6.13 metres at Naga Viper. Assays from 34 additional holes are still pending.
