New York spot gold lost $9.80 to $1,191.10 on Tuesday. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 6.58 points to 718.13 while the TSX Gold Index lost 3.91 points to 153.41. Tahoe Resources Inc. (THO) led the decline, slumping 88 cents to $3.61 on 6.73 million shares after the market learned that a Guatemalan court has reversed the reinstatement of the company's mining licence for Escobal. The company and government must hold further talks with the local communities to reverse the decision, something likely to take several months.

Michael Hudson's Mawson Resources Ltd. (MAW), up one-half cent to 25 cents on 129,000 shares, has received assays of up to 3.1 grams of gold per tonne and 547 parts per million (ppm) cobalt, or 4.2 grams of gold equivalent per tonne, over 33 metres from drilling at its Rajapalot project in Finland. The assays, which are from 43 new holes completed on the project, included a few other noteworthy intersections, such as 14.2 grams of gold per tonne and 938 ppm cobalt across five metres and 3.6 grams of gold per tonne and 956 ppm cobalt across 20.7 metres.
