New York spot gold rose $9.20 to $1,231.50 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 0.84 point to 712.33 while the TSX Gold Index dipped 0.69 point to 188.85. Most Canadian gold miners traded near Thursday's close. China Gold International Resources Corp. (CGG) did stray a bit, dropping 14 cents to $2.17 on 593,000 shares. Eldorado Gold Corp. (ELD) was active. It gained five cents to $1.47 on 5.99 million shares.

Allan Laboucan's Advance Gold Corp. (AAX), down 15.5 cents to 24 cents on 1.88 million shares, has received assays of up to 9.46 grams of gold and 36 grams of silver per tonne over 1.7 metres from a first phase of drilling at the Tabasquena silver mine in Mexico. The gold hit occurred in the second of the four holes drilled in the company's modest program earlier this year. Assays from the first hole were unimpressive and results from the final two holes are still pending. The two first holes were drilled about 100 metres beneath the old mine workings on the project. Both hit the Tabasquena vein, encountering just over 10 metres of mineralization in each, although save for the 1.7-metre high-grade zone, neither intersection produced noteworthy grades.
