New York spot gold gained $2.70 to $1,257.20 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 0.40 point to 739.70 while the TSX Gold Index slipped 0.95 point to 193.35. Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TXG) led the advancers today, gaining 54 cents to $11.97 on 495,000 shares. The company said today that it had produced 80,000 ounces of gold during the second quarter at its El Limon Guajes mine in Guerrero, Mexico. Centamin PLC (CEE) slid eight cents to $2.03 on 35,000 shares following word that its Sukari mine in Egypt had produced 92,803 ounces of gold in the second quarter, down from 124,300 ounces in the first three months of 2018.

Allan Williams and Douglas Fulcher's Maritime Resources Corp. (MAE), down one cent to 10.5 cents on 223,000 shares, has fired back at its unwanted suitor, Dustin Angelo's Anaconda Mining Inc. (ANX: $0.36). Anaconda launched a hostile bid for Maritime in March, initially offering 0.365 of an Anaconda share for each Maritime share. It boosted the offer a few weeks later to 0.39 of a share and increased it again last week, this time to one-half of an Anaconda share for every Maritime share. That latest offer came with a condition -- that Maritime would call off a planned placement that would add several million new shares.
