New York spot gold lost $2.80 to $1,254.50 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 1.81 points to 740.10 while the TSX Gold Index fell 1.51 points to 194.30. Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TXG) led Canadian gold miners lower today. It lost 27 cents to $11.43 on 287,000 shares. McEwen Mining Inc. (MUX) was among the gainers. It rose one cent to $2.93 on 150,000 shares. Today was generally slow, but Eldorado Gold Corp. (ELD) traded briskly, losing one cent to $1.36 on 2.19 million shares. Eldorado has no recent news but could use some, at least the good kind: A share sold for nearly $22 in 2011.
Lewis Lawrick and Dustin Angelo's Anaconda Mining Inc. (ANX), up one-half cent to 36.5 cents on 86,000 shares, has received assays of up to 2.21 grams of gold per tonne over 25.5 metres at its Goldboro gold project in Nova Scotia. That broad interval included a 3.2-metre subinterval that averaged 12.39 grams per tonne, mainly thanks to a 50-centimetre-wide zone that assayed 67.17 grams per tonne. The latest assays are from five new holes spanning 1,725 metres that targeted eight mineralized zones at East Goldbrook system and another eight at the Boston-Richardson gold system. Other holes yielded encouraging grades and widths, including a 10.5-metre zone that averaged 3.66 grams per tonne and a 14.9-metre interval that assayed 2.23 grams per tonne. Several shorter intervals produced high-grade hits, including a 1.1-metre zone that averaged 22.63 grams per tonne.
