New York spot gold rose $3.10 to $1,301.90 on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 1.09 points to 761.26 while the TSX Gold Index rose 3.05 points to 193.95. Most Canadian gold miners advanced today, led by Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM), which added $1.55 to $60.96 on 1.01 million shares. Premier Gold Mines Ltd. (PG) was also strong. It added 13 cents to $2.71 on 822,000 shares.
David Grondin's TomaGold Corp. (LOT), up 2.5 cents to 7.5 cents on 11.52 million shares, has received assays of up to 40.94 grams of gold per tonne over 5.32 metres from drilling at Monster Lake, 50 kilometres southwest of Chibougamau in Quebec. The cost of the drilling is being borne by Iamgold Corp. (IMG: $7.81), which has a 50-per-cent interest in the project and is on its way to a 75-per-cent share. (TomaGold has a 45-per-cent interest and Michael Curtis's Quinto Resources Inc. (QIT: $0.085) holds a 5-per-cent share.)
