New York spot gold rose $1.10 to $1,300.10 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 6.20 points to 769.02 while the TSX Gold Index rose 1.87 points to 191.06. Detour Gold Corp. (DGC) was strong today, gaining 41 cents to $10.54 on 1.99 million shares. So was Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TXG), which added 49 cents to $13.07 on 1.04 million shares.

Greg Smith and Christian Milau's Equinox Gold Corp. (EQX), down one cent to $1.03 on 891,000 shares, has received assays of up to 1.4 grams of gold per tonne over 39 metres and 1.44 grams per tonne across 37 metres from drilling at Piaba West, at its Aurizona gold mine in Brazil. The assays are from the final 30 holes of a big drill program that began last year and wrapped up recently, in which the company completed 115 stepout and infill holes spanning just over 16,000 metres. Some of the holes encountered higher grades, including 14.2 grams per tonne across three metres and three grams per tonne across six metres.
