New York spot gold rose $2.20 to $1,299.00 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 0.35 point to 775.22 while the TSX Gold Index lost 0.36 point to 189.19. Most Canadian gold miners moved little today. Eldorado Gold Corp. (EDV) rose two cents to $1.48 on 1.51 million shares on word it will buy back up to 1.74 million shares.
John Williamson's Altiplano Metals Inc. (APN) added 5.5 cents to 35.5 cents on 184,000 shares on encouraging news from its Farellon copper and gold project in Chile. The company has been extracting rock in bulk sampling programs of veins on two levels of the old mine. Since late last year, Altiplano has mined nearly 10,600 tonnes of mineralized material, of which just over 6,000 tonnes were sent for toll milling. (The rest of the rock had been stockpiled but is now being shipped for processing.) Most of the assays are back, the company says, but it is keeping mum about the results, presumably until the test is complete.
