New York spot gold fell $11.40 to $1,323.80 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 7.55 points to 797.41 while the TSX Gold Index slipped 1.53 points to 190.26. Tahoe Resources Inc. (THO) led Canadian gold miners lower today, dropping 41 cents to $6.36 on 2.69 million shares. The company's La Arena mine in Peru has been hit by a strike.

Matthew Hornor's Maple Gold Mines Ltd. (MGM), down 1.5 cents to 24.5 cents on 644,000 shares, has received assays of up to 0.44 gram of gold per tonne across 104 metres from the Nika zones at its Douay project, north of Val d'Or in Quebec. The broad zone included a 17-metre subinterval that averaged 1.08 grams per tonne. The assays, from four holes drilled into the Nika zones, produced 0.86 grams per tonne across 13.2 metres in a second hole drilled 133 metres southeast of the first. The company had drilled a hole about 265 metres west of the latter hole and about 175 metres southeast of the first in 2012. It encountered a broad zone of low-grade mineralization that included a 1.5-metre interval averaging 21.1 grams per tonne. The company thinks these three holes may have encountered the same mineralized zones.
