New York spot gold rose $2.00 to $1,349.20 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange added 5.05 points to 802.60 while the TSX Gold Index rose 1.73 points to 191.32. Most Canadian gold miners were strong today. Premier Gold Mines Ltd. (PG) added six cents to $2.72 on 872,000 shares and Yamana Gold Inc. (YRI) rose four cents to $3.74 on 4.02 million shares.

Clive Johnson and Robert Cross's B2Gold Corp. (BTO), up four cents to $3.69 on 8.75 million shares, has received assays of up to 4.10 grams of gold per tonne across 30.8 metres from the North Extension zone at its Fekola project in Mali. Results from 13 other holes into the zone also produced assays deemed "highlights," with most of them producing grades topping two grams per tonne across significant intervals -- generally topping 40 metres. B2Gold also completed several infill holes into the main Fekola resource area. One of the holes produced 3.95 grams of gold across 86.8 metres.
