New York spot gold fell $18.50 to $1,334.30 on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 4.66 points to 781.37 while the TSX Gold Index lost 1.96 points to 186.60. Canadian gold miners lost ground today, with Fred Stanford's Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TXG) leading the retreat. It lost 62 cents to $13.07 on 650,000 shares. Klondex Mines Ltd. (KDX) went the other way, adding six cents to $3.02 on 563,000 shares.

Robert Dodds and Quentin Yarie's Red Pine Exploration Inc. (RPX), unchanged at 6.5 cents on 145,000 shares, has received assays of up to 10.17 grams of gold per tonne over two metres at its Wawa gold project, just east of Wawa. The assays are from the first 20 holes of the company's current drill program. The high-grade hit occurred 950 metres north of the existing Surluga deposit. As well, other hits show that gold mineralization within the footwall of Surluga now extends along a 2.2-kilometre strike length.
