New York spot gold rose $2.30 to $1,335.70 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 3.69 points to 766.46 while the TSX Gold Index lost 1.84 points to 184.11. Most Canadian gold miners moved little today, although Guyana Goldfields Inc. (GUY) added 10 cents to $4.99 on 1.67 million shares. Kinross Gold Corp. (K) took a tumble, falling 44 cents to $4.60 on 10.69 million shares.

Bruce McLeod's Sabina Gold and Silver Corp. (SBB), up five cents to $1.57 on 305,000 shares, has received assays of up to 16.32 grams of gold per tonne over 23.25 metres at its Back River project in Nunavut. The broad zone included a 10.3-metre interval that averaged 34.02 grams per tonne. Much of that gold came from two intervals spanning a total of 2.15 metres and averaging just over 100 grams per tonne. The assays are from a hole drilled as a follow-up test to one completed last year at the Llama Extension target. That hole had produced 9.48 grams per tonne across 38.55 metres. The latest hole was drilled 60 metres up plunge from last year's test.
