New York spot gold rose $0.60 to $1,332.80 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange dropped 5.52 points to 763.78 while the TSX Gold Index fell 1.37 points to 183.83. Most Canadian gold miners lost ground again today. Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TXG) fell 52 cents to $7.70 on 712,000 shares. Tahoe Resources Inc. (ELD) was stronger, it added two cents to $6.14 on 1.09 million shares.

George Brack and Greg McCunn's Alio Gold Inc. (ALO), up 16 cents to $2.58 on 427,000 shares, has received assays of up to 2.03 grams of gold per tonne across 48.2 metres of complex breccia at its Ana Paula project in Guerrero, Mexico. The assays are from the second and third hole of a six-hole, 3,800-metre program that began in January. (The other hole produced 40.9 metres of the complex breccia, averaging 1.91 grams per tonne.) Assays from the first hole, received three weeks ago, returned 1.3 grams per tonne across 55.7 metres of near-surface hydrothermal breccia, but the main encouragement was a 19-metre interval of deeper rock that averaged 6.45 grams per tonne.
