New York spot gold lost $7.20 to $1,312.50 on Tuesday. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 3.58 points to 924.62 while the TSX Gold Index dropped 1.70 points to 193.11. Goldcorp Inc. (G) was one of the few gainers among Canadian gold miners today. It added three cents to $16.86 on 3.64 million shares. Eldorado Gold Corp., a $22 stock in 2011 slid 10 cents to $1.55 on 5.54 million shares and Alamos Gold Inc. (AGI) dropped 38 cents to $7.60 on 2.04 million shares.
Hugh Stuart and Rick Clark's Orca Gold Inc. (ORG), down two cents to 74 cents on 89,000 shares, has received assays of up to 2.01 grams of gold per tonne across 162 metres at its Block 14 gold project in Sudan. The assays are from 18 new holes completed in the company's continuing 25,000-metre drill program. The assays also included 1.73 grams per tonne across 131 metres and 2.21 grams per tonne across 82 metres. The grades and intervals are in line with results obtained late last year. In December, Orca encountered up to 1.8 grams of gold per tonne across 88 metres and in November it hit a 17.4-metre interval that assayed 7.92 grams per tonne.
