New York spot gold slid $17.40 to $1,275.00 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange dropped 5.22 points to 794.13 while the TSX Gold Index lost 1.79 points to 194.12. Tahoe Resources Inc. (THO), down 24 cents to $5.73 on 1.22 million shares, and Klondex mines Ltd. (KDX), down 15 cents to $3.111 on 1.91 million shares, led Canadian gold miners lower today.

Reimar Koch and Terrence King's Goldstrike Resources Ltd. (GSR), down one cent to 22 cents on 212,000 shares, has received assays of up to 5.36 grams of gold per tonne over 22 metres from the Monte Carlo zone on the company's Lucky Strike project in Yukon. The hit included a 5.72-metre interval that averaged 18.79 grams per tonne. A second hole managed 5.12 grams per tonne across 2.15 metres. Mr. King, president and chief executive officer, says that the company's nine-hole, 1,032-metre drill program encountered a "broad zone of near-surface gold mineralization" that remains open at depth and in all directions. The market shrugged off the news, perhaps because the eight other holes yielded modest grades across lesser intervals.
