New York spot gold fell $2.20 to $1,277.60 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange dipped 3.33 points to 791.62 while the TSX Gold Index added 0.36 point to 193.92. Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TXG) led Canadian gold miners higher, adding 59 cents to $13.76 on 272,000 shares. Premier Gold Mines Ltd. (PG) fell 11 cents to $3.52 on 636,000 shares.
Brian Groves and Jeff Sundar's Genesis Metals Corp. (GIS), down 1.5 cents to 10 cents on 290,000 shares, has received assays of up to 1.94 grams of gold per tonne across a true width of 24.33 metres at the Main zone on its Chevrier gold project, near Chibougamau in Northern Quebec. The assays are from the remaining 17 holes of the company's first 5,000-metre drill program on the project this year. Three of the holes that tested a target 150 metres north of the Main zone were duds, as was one that tested a portion of Main. The others yielded varying but generally modest amounts of gold across lesser intervals, although a second hole did manage 1.89 grams per tonne across a true width of 21.82 metres.
