New York spot gold gained $3.60 to $1,291.10 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange slipped 2.13 points to 791.32 while the TSX Gold Index added 1.02 points to 202.63. Centerra Gold Inc. (PG) was one of several Canadian golds with modest gains today. It added 16 cents to $9.22 on 1.18 million shares. Decliners were as plentiful, but the moves were no more substantial. New Gold Inc. lost eight cents to $4.76 on 3.19 million shares and Tahoe Resources Inc. (THO) lost 13 cents to $6.60 on 1.63 million shares.

David Palmer's Probe Metals Inc. (PRB), up seven cents to $1.52 on 74,000 shares, has received assays of up to 1.5 grams of gold per tonne over 316.3 metres from its Val d'Or East project in Quebec. The assays are from the latest 27 holes of the company's continuing 75,000-metre drill program, which is centred on the area surrounding the New Beliveau deposit. The long interval was bolstered by some higher-grade intervals, including a 30.7-metre zone that averaged 4.5 grams per tonne. Several other holes yielded noteworthy assays, although over significantly shorter intervals.
