New York spot gold lost $6.80 to $1,267.80 on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 0.84 point to 784.77 while the TSX Gold Index was unchanged at 199.85. Most Canadian golds moved little again today, although Detour Gold Corp. (DGC) did lose 36 cents to $13.92 on 1.36 million shares.

Ian Klassen's Grande Portage Resources Ltd. (GPG) jumped 16 cents to 61 cents on 1.45 million shares on word that it has wrapped up a 12-hole, 3,700-metre drill program at its Herbert gold project in southeastern Alaska. Investors jumped early, as the assays are still pending, but visible gold turned up in some of the core and the work so far suggests that the stepout holes have an excellent chance of expanding the mineralized zone. Mr. Klassen, president and chief executive officer, says that he is "delighted with the drilling program this year," noting that his team knows that the Herbert gold discovery has significant expansion potential, as demonstrated by the fact that the company continues to intercept gold-bearing veins laterally and at depths not encountered before.
