New York spot gold fell $8.90 to $1,270.50 on Monday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 0.77 point to 780.46 while the TSX Gold Index added 0.72 point to 196.95. Canadian gold miners moved little today. Goldcorp Inc. (G) added 24 cents to $16.44 on 4.71 million shares.

Chris Stewart's Treasury Metals Inc. (TML), up two cents to 72 cents on 208,000 shares, has received assays of up to 31.38 grams of gold and 21.63 grams of silver per tonne over three metres from infill drilling at its Goliath gold project in Northern Ontario. The company also completed condemnation drilling in several areas where mining infrastructure would be built, and that work yielded some new near-surface gold hits. Those tests yielded assays of up to 2.84 grams per tonne over 5.83 metres in areas 80 to 350 metres from the proposed open-pit in what it is calling the East Resource target, prompting a rethink on the proposed pit design.
