New York spot gold jumped $8.90 to $1,285.80 on Thursday. The TSX Venture Exchange lost 4.16 points to 758.57 while the TSX Gold Index added 3.97 points to 199.29. Most Canadian golds moved upward again today. Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) added $2.20 to $59.02 on 1.15 million shares, while Iamgold Corp. (IMG) was a laggard, dropping five cents to $6.67 on 2.93 million shares.
Bill Fisher and Julio Espaillat's Goldquest Mining Corp. (GQC), down 5.5 cents to 39.5 cents on 1.38 million shares, has received assays of up to 6.34 grams of gold and 4.37 grams of silver per tonne over 11.7 metres from the Cachimbo discovery on its Tireo project in the Dominican Republic. The assays are from four holes drilled at Cachimbo. They all produced gold and silver with modest amounts of copper and zinc. Mr. Fisher, executive chairman, says that he and his crew are "proud to share" the results, adding that "it is early days and with each new hole we unveil more of the story" of the Cachimbo geology and its potential.
